Migraine & Headache

Headaches can come in all shapes and sizes for any number of causes. Over 10 million people in the UK suffer from a regular headache, meaning they are incredibly common and can often be easily treated.
The most common type of headache is the tension or what we would normally associate as a ‘normal’ headache. They usually last from 30 minutes to a couple of hours and shouldn’t stop you from undertaking your usual daily activities. Causes are varied but are often linked to stress, dehydration or poor posture.

Migraines are less common but more severe than tension headaches, usually felt as a throbbing pain at the front or side of the head. They can often be associated with other symptoms too, such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Approximately one in seven people in the UK regularly suffers the misery of migraine attacks and women are three times more likely to get them than men. Unlike tension headaches, migraines will tend to last at least a couple of hours and will prevent you from undertaking everyday tasks.

Other forms of headaches include cluster headaches, which occur in cycles at the same time each day or month, associated with a very intense pain behind one eye, as well as sinus headaches, which occur as deep pain in the forehead or bridge of the nose, accompanied with sudden head movements or straining during nasal congestion and feverish symptoms.

When a headache or migraine strikes, your first line of defence is likely to be the use of a powerful painkiller. But these can often cause more harm than good, especially when used on a regular basis. The Daily Health is here to tell you about powerful and effective drug-free ways to keep your headaches at bay and continue your life as normal.
