An Avocado A Day Could Help Keep Heart Disease At Bay

Previously, we told you how eating one avocado a day can reduce the risk of heart disease and lower levels of LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol, especially in patients struggling with losing weight.

Now a recent study has confirmed that a daily avocado is packed with even more heart health benefits and it may even add years to your life.

Fighting bad fat with good fat

For many years, mainstream dietary advice has warned that we should only consume avocados in moderation, because they’re too high in saturated fat.

Our regular readers will know that this whole idea that saturated fat is bad for your health is not only skewed but it can cause a lot of damage to your health too.

That’s because the kind of saturated fat found in avocados is exactly what your body needs to protect everything from your brain to your heart.

In fact, in the latest study researchers reviewed 10 studies and they found that people who ate an entire avocado a day saw a significant reduction in their “bad” cholesterol levels (that’s the “LDL” part of the lipid panel).

The participants who loaded up on avocados were actually able to shift their balance of “good” HDL versus “bad” LDL cholesterol, improving their heart-protecting HDL cholesterol levels.

This only goes to show that all the nonsense those low-fat pundits have been telling us for years, particularly when it comes to saturated fat, has been detrimental to our health… instead of protecting it! As a result, we’ve been warned against consuming butter, eggs, steaks and yes, even avocados, on the grounds that these foods would clog up our arteries and kill us.

Of course, the benefits don’t stop at their heart-protective properties, as avocados are also a natural way to boost your fibre intake. They’re also full of antioxidants, vitamins C, E, B and folic acid.

So the next time you have any doubts about cutting up some avocados for a salad or whipping up a batch of guacamole, go ahead and enjoy this delicious and nutritious way to protect your heart.

  • Love your news on avacados, I recently read that avacado skin and “nuts” are even better for you than the actual flesh of the fruit. Have you heard this?
