What is the future of the NHS after Brexit? Will our health services improve or will the negative
effects (for instance caps on immigration that might limit medical resources) see the further
demise of the NHS?
These are just some of the issues Agora Health Editors, Rachael Linkie and Francois Lubbe,
discuss on the impact of Brexit on the NHS.

I like that you raised some worrying issues. I also like that you spoke about the real problems within the NHS and did not turn this into something political. Sadly, the NHS has always been used as a political playing card (as we’ve again seen during the referendum campaign!)… and now it’s all backfired! But hey, even as a Leave voter, I knew that £350mil was never going to go towards the NHS.
The NHS has nothing to do with Brexit. I do not like all ills of this country are being blamed at our leaving the European Comedian’s Club!
The NHS is simply not fit for purpose because of its inept and incompetent management and the greed of Big Drug.
I have done management consultancy in several Hospitals and discovered large scale theft of linen towels, in fact anything the was not welded or screwed down. They are spending somebody else’s money.
One must remember that everything in life conforms to the Gaussian
bell shaped curve, which shows that 95% of the population surveyed is AVERAGE, 2.5% absolute rubbish and 2.5% excellent. This includes doctors, pharmacists, scientists, etc.
Nursing is no longer a vocation, but just a job. If the education system was good enough to mould the young to become useful citizens rather than mediocre individuals we would not need to rely on foreigners workers , it doctors or nurses in the NHS. In any case most of the EU doctors are mediocre as the good ones fill the good jobs in their own countries and those less competent emigrate.
As for post the Brexir recession, it will happen if politicians, the media and yourselves talk us in to one as happened many times in the last 60 years I lived in this country. Competents, the correct type of education better management and hard work will see us through. Out of the EU will remove the vale of political incompetents as there will be no one to blame but ourselves for failure.
My doctor – a very compassionate and caring man – is from Portugal. He has managed to get to the bottom of some serious health problems I am suffering with. So, far from ‘mediocre’ as you claim. I fear for my health if I think it will be left in the hands of some newly trained little spoiled British doctor, who goes on strike the minute things get a bit tough on the wards.
Also, did you mean political incompetence? Because “political incompetents” makes no sense… just saying… since you claim to have a PhD.
Great webinar.
Very interesting. NHS is bankrupt.
Maybe needs a minimal charge cost and or community health staff to treat diabetes etc at local level, help people live a healthier life.

I believe the fundamental reason for the problems of the health service are the same with
every other state run organisation. There is no link between expenditure and income and
although the government does give all its nationalised industries strict budgets they are
systematically ignored, well knowing that the government has no choice in the end but to put
up the shortfall, in effect increasing the budget each year
I AM 79 YEARS OLD, I KEEP AWAY FROM THE NHS, THEIR DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS KILL MORE PEOPLE THAN MANY WARS. THE HUMAN BODY IS NOT ABLE TO COPE WITH DRUG BASED MEDICINE. CANCER IS A VERY PROFITABLE INDUSTRY. BICARBONATE OF SODA IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED TO GET RID OF CANCER, THERE IS SO MUCH EVIDENCE OF THIS. STROKE, WELL IF YOU KNOW WHAT VITAMINS AND MINERALS TO TAKE THE ASAP AFTER A STROKE YOU BEGIN TO RECOVER FROM THE STROKE WITHIN 20 MINS AND AFTER 2 HOURS IT IS AS IF THE STROKE NEVER HAPPENED.I KNOW THIS FIRST HAND AS WELL AS EVIDENCE FROM OTHERS. WE DO NOT NEED THE NHS OTHER THAN FOR ACCIDENTS.
Hi veronica. Could you please tell me the names of the vitamins and minerals to take following a stroke. Also how to use the bicarbonate of soda for cancer. It would be much appreciated. Maureen
I couldn’t agree more. But sometimes you need a doctor and where else can you go but the NHS. It’s not like we have private care and choice of care over here. So we are all trapped in this broken system and we have to make it work.
Great webinar. I like your objective approach – weighing up the pros and cons of what lies ahead. It’s sad that the NHS is in such a mess, but here’s for hoping that we can turn things around.
I wouldn’t have been alive if it wasn’t for my brilliant NHS doctor (from Spain!). He was so knowledgeable and caring and really made an effort to treat me like a patient and not just a number… or chart on a clipboard. It will be a great shame – and perhaps even the end – if the NHS loses EU medical staff. BTW, I voted Leave.

So Peter, as a mediocre individual yourself, do you think you make such a big difference to society with all you PhDs, BAs and Gaussian whatnots?
The NHS had nothing to do with Brexit until it was dragged into the debate by the Leave campaigners. Fact!
And Brexit is bound to affect the NHS whether you like it or not… bell curve or no bell curve.
This is a great webinar and I commend these two editors for taking the time to unpick the topic and talking about things in a non-political way.
Well done The Daily Health
