You’re probably sick and tired of hearing about the latest ways to lose weight by now lets face it, you certainly get your fill of dietary advice given by the media from 1 January onward.
Unfortunately much of this advice seems to require you to take drastic measures like following strict detox regimes and faddy diets that essentially involve starving yourself. They are not only unrealistic in terms of trying to stick to but are also unhealthy, as they place undue strain on your body.
So where does that leave you if you want to shift those excess pounds, have more energy and maintain good health without living on rabbit food? Obviously it goes without saying that the best way to achieve this is to follow a balanced diet, which includes plenty of fruit and vegetables, and to exercise regularly.
However, your body may require a helping hand to rid it of accumulated toxins and fat. Done properly, a detox not only cleanses your body and sets the stage for improved overall health but is also critical for successful weight-loss.
Here at Agora Health we recently came across a new product called 4-in-1 Body Slim that helps detoxify your system and helps you lose-weight.
Psyllium helps cleanse and rejuvenate your system
As the name implies, 4-in-1 Body Slim targets four areas. Its ingredients chromium, fibre (psyllium), chitosan, and konjak glucomannan were all chosen for their specific abilities to decrease appetite, stabilise appetite, cleanse the digestive system and reduce calorie intake.
The first step in this weight-loss process is detoxification. This is where psyllium is able to assist as it cleanses your digestive tract. It is an insoluble fibre that stimulates the production of bile, which is necessary for the digestion of fats.
Besides stimulating fat-digesting bile, psyllium helps promote digestive-tract health by reducing the amount of time faecal matter is in your colon. This not only keeps your system clean but also further reduces the absorption of fat and fat calories.
4-in-1 Body Slim prevents you from over-eating and helps control cravings
Once you have a clean slate, 4-in-1 Body Slim focuses on controlling appetite, cravings, and all-around fat absorption, starting with konjak glucomannan. This herb was certainly new to the HSI team so we were keen to learn more about it.
Research shows that it can absorb up to 200 times its weight in water, leaving you feeling full. So it works as the appetite-suppressant part of the formula.
Chromium picks up the torch from there and works to stabilise your appetite. It balances out glucose levels and decreases cravings, especially for sweets and carbohydrates, which are often triggered by drops in blood glucose.
Obviously it goes without saying that if you suffer from high blood sugar as a result of diabetes you should consult your doctor before using 4-in-1 Body Slim, especially if you are already on medication.
11 extra pounds in weight lost after taking chitosan
Chitosan is a fairly well-known remedy for weight-loss that binds to fat molecules near it. Since chitosan is non-digestible, it passes through the body along with the fat bound to it so you never actually absorb that fat.
A six-month, randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study conducted in Poland, was designed to assess the effect of chitosan on weight-loss and management. It involved 50 obese women who were given two 750mg chitosan tablets before each of three meals. The chitosan group lost significantly more weight than the placebo group 35 pounds versus 24.1
Its important to note, though, that the women in this study also took part in a programme consisting of two-hour long meetings with a doctor, a psychologist, and a dietician every two weeks.
So theres no way to tell for sure whether the chitosan was the major contributing factor in the weight-loss. However, it follows that if you eat a sensible diet and exercise while taking it you are much more likely to see positive results. No adverse effects were reported following its use.
Taking a closer look at chitosans efficacy and tolerability
One concern is that its binding action might interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients like vitamins A, D, E and co-enzyme Q10 (coQ10).
However, we found a trial that addresses this concern as it was specifically conducted to evaluate chitosans efficacy and tolerability. No significant changes were noted in the subjects levels of vitamins A, D, or E in either the chitosan or the placebo group.2
Although the study didn’t measure it specifically, it seems reasonable to assume that if chitosan doesn’t affect fat-soluble vitamins, it also probably wont affect other fat-soluble nutrients such as coQ10. But to be on the safe side, its a good idea to work with your doctor to monitor your levels of all these nutrients if you decide to try 4-in-1 Body Slim.
What to take for best results
The recommended dosage for 4-in-1 Body Slim is two tablets taken three times a day half an hour before meals.
Contraindications: As already mentioned, diabetics should not take 4-in-1 Body Slim without consulting their doctor first. Other than occasional reports of belching, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and nausea 4-in-1 Body Slim appears to be completely safe. If you do experience any of these side-effects then supplementing with digestive enzymes should help.
